Launch of the Federal Government’s new National Urban Policy has been welcomed as a win for the West by leading advocacy group, the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue.

Unveiled by the Hon. Jenny McAllister, Federal Minister for Cities, at the Dialogue’s 2024 Boomtown! Property & Infrastructure Summit, it’s the first federal urban policy plan since 2011.

Dialogue CEO, Adam Leto, said it was significant that the Albanese Government chose to launch the strategy in Western Sydney.

“This sends a strong message that the Federal Government is committed to growing the cities of the region,” Mr Leto said.

“Western Sydney faces a range of environmental, economic and liveability challenges as well as growth opportunities, and we welcome a national vision.

“Bold urban planning will help create a liveable, equitable and resilient region in Sydney’s booming cities. This is a win for the West.”

Minister MacAllister said a national approach to sustainable cities growth will help improve social, environmental and economic outcomes across Australia, and especially in Greater Western Sydney.

“Greater Western Sydney is one of the great cities of Australia,” Ms MacAllister said. “We have a population that is multicultural, that is energetic, a manufacturing sector that is well established, and of course in the coming years, we will have an airport.

“There is so much that is exciting going on here. The Boomtown! conference allows me the opportunity to connect with many advocates here in Western Sydney who are champions for this great region.”
