Intermodal Precinct Takes Top Prize at Boomtown! 2024
The $4 billion Moorebank Intermodal Precinct has won the Project of the Year Award at the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue’s 2024 Boomtown! Property & Infrastructure Awards.
Presented by the NSW Premier, Chris Minns, in front of over 300 government, property, transport, infrastructure and community leaders, National Intermodal, Qube and ESR received the award for the transformational freight and logistics precinct in South West Sydney.
Spanning over 240 hectares, it is the largest intermodal precinct in Australia and enhances the country’s competitiveness in the global market with connections to major road networks and a dedicated rail freight link to Port Botany.
Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue CEO, Adam Leto, congratulated the project owners, saying Moorebank Intermodal has revolutionised freight logistics in Australia.
“This project epitomises Greater Western Sydney’s global potential,” Mr Leto said.
“With an import/export rail terminal in the east and interstate rail terminal in the west of the precinct, Moorebank Intermodal connects Western Sydney into the national freight network and will transform Australia’s supply chains.”
The state-of-the-art facility removes thousands of movements from Sydney’s roads each day, significantly decreases congestion, lowers freight costs and reduces carbon emissions.
National Intermodal CEO James Baulderstone said the Moorebank Intermodal Precinct showcases the potential of Western Sydney to drive large-scale, transformative projects that enhance Australia’s global competitiveness.
“The Moorebank Intermodal Precinct is not just a project, it’s a vision brought to life by the hard work and dedication of our team and partners, and we are honoured to receive the Project of the Year Award at Boomtown 2024,” Mr Baulderstone said.
“This recognition is a testament to our commitment to work with our industry partners to create a world-class freight and logistics hub that is strategically located in Western Sydney.
“We’re proud to be at the forefront of transforming Australia’s supply chain by building efficient, resilient, and sustainable intermodal precincts. We’re excited to keep driving innovation and progress in the sector, creating a mor connected future from Western Sydney to the rest of Australia.”
