Election Boost for Fairfield Hospital Welcomed
Leading regional think-tank, the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue, today welcomes the Federal government’s $80 million election commitment to boost emergency services at Fairfield Hospital.
With the NSW Government’s $550 million redevelopment of the hospital in the pipeline, the Federal government has promised an expanded emergency department with more clinical and support floor space for general and paediatric emergency treatment.
Dialogue CEO, Adam Leto, said Labor’s election pledge ensures Fairfield Hospital gets a high-quality redevelopment that can cater to the health needs of Western Sydney.
“This is the first major redevelopment for Fairfield Hospital since it opened in 1988 following years of struggling to keep up with demand from the region’s rapidly growing population,” he said.
“With more than 35,000 presentations to the Fairfield Hospital Emergency Department in 2022-23, this additional investment is needed to ensure the hospital is fit-for-purpose as hundreds of thousands of new residents prepare to call the region home over the next few years.”
The announcement follows record investment in health infrastructure in Western Sydney by the NSW Government over the last two years, headlined by the $1.3 billion redevelopment of Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital.
“It is critical that we maintain momentum when it comes to health infrastructure that residents need in the West,” Mr Leto said.
“We look forward to the NSW Government releasing plans on the redevelopment of Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital soon.”
