Boomtown! Gala Dinner - Project of the Year Nominees 2024
The Boomtown! Project of the Year Awards was established to acknowledge completed (or near completed) major projects over the previous 12 months that have, or will, significantly contribute to the sustainable growth of Greater Western Sydney.
These are presented annually at our Project of the Year Awards Dinner held in 2024 on Thursday, 28 November.

Outstanding Innovation Project
Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility – First Building
The Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) First Building represents a pioneering effort in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. This state-of-the-art facility, developed by the NSW Government, aims to bolster the local manufacturing industry by integrating industry and research.

Outstanding Community Infrastructure Project
Campbelltown Billabong Parklands
Campbelltown Billabong Parklands provides a regionally-significant recreational green space in the heart of Campbelltown. The project creates a new, unprecedented and distinctive high-value open space. The four-hectare curated oasis was designed to become an iconic gateway into Campbelltown city, complementing the existing amenity that surrounds it.

Outstanding Education Project
Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) – Construction (Kingswood)
The IAT-C’s $80 million facility offers innovative courses to upskill and reskill the workforce. The new campus features state-of-the-art facilities, including a drone room, digital engineering labs, a construction sandpit and large workshop spaces to accommodate the construction of full-scale buildings that can be used in carpentry, plumbing, and electrotechnology training.

Outstanding Health Project
Liverpool Health & Academic Precinct – Stage 1
The Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct is a $830 million redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital and a new education and research hub. Stage 1 works include a new birthing unit, expanded neonatal intensive care unit, a new pathology department, additional medical imaging department, emergency Department expansion, new hospital main entrance, outpatient and support services (general clinics) and a new pharmacy.

Outstanding Housing Project
Mason & Main – Stage 1
Mason & Main is a vibrant mixed-use destination in Merrylands, just five minutes from Parramatta CBD, comprising 434 Build-to-Rent (BTR) and 415 Build-to-Sell (BTS) apartments across five buildings, and an activated retail and dining precinct where residents and the wider community can gather.

Outstanding Sustainability Project
Milson Park Wetland – Westmead
The Milson Park Wetland – a vegetated stormwater system and green space is designed, constructed and maintained to better manage water quality and improve community amenity. It included planting 42,000 new native plants and over 100 trees, and building 850 metres of new shared pathway. Milson Park Wetland also aims to achieve a microclimate cooling benefit through a reduction in ambient temperatures of five degrees Celsius for days over 35 degrees Celsius

Outstanding Freight & Commercial Precinct
Moorebank Intermodal Precinct
The Moorebank Intermodal Precinct project is a transformative infrastructure initiative aimed at revolutionising freight logistics in Australia. Located at Moorebank, the precinct spans over 240 hectares, making it the largest intermodal and logistics precinct in the country. Key features include an IMEX (import/export) rail terminal and an interstate rail terminal, with a capacity of 500,000 TEU per year, connects Sydney with all major freight destinations across Australia.

Outstanding Logistics Project
Moorebank National Distribution Centre
Woolworths and Primary Connect have set a new standard for supply chain efficiency and service delivery across the country at home in the Moorebank Intermodal Precinct. The semi-automated facility is set on a 11.5 hectare site, spanning three levels. It will dispatch over 2.5 million cartons weekly, serving more than 1,000 stores across the country with precision and efficiency.

Outstanding Sport & Recreation Project
Oran Park Leisure Centre
The Oran Park Leisure Centre (OPLC) is a significant addition to the rapidly growing Oran Park precinct and to South-West Sydney. This state-of-the-art facility offers a wide range of sports, fitness, aquatics, and recreational amenities, including an indoor sports court hall, 50-metre competition pool, gym and cafe.

Outstanding Tourism Project
URBNSURF Sydney Olympic Park
This new surfing facility within the heart of the Sydney Olympic Park precinct incorporates a 16,000m2 surf lagoon holding 26 million litres of water. The surf lagoon is designed to accommodate up to 84 surfers per hour and deliver up to 1,000 authentic surfing waves per hour, up to 2.1m in height and 10 seconds in duration.

Belmore Youth Resource Centre – 30th Anniversary
For three decades, Belmore Youth Resource Centre (BYRC) has been a drop-in centre for young people in Canterbury-Bankstown. The Council facility, which provides a safe space and programs to youth aged 12-24 years, opened on 27 August 1994 and has welcomed more than 10,000 locals through its doors.
